What is Hakkuu?
Hakkuu is web-based software for small businesses in Canada that puts customer records, quotes, invoices, inventory and expenses in one system. It replaces the spreadsheet for customers, the notebook for orders, the inbox full of invoice PDFs and the shoebox of receipts. A quote sent from Hakkuu can be accepted by the customer from their phone with no account, and an accepted quote becomes an invoice in one click with every line item carried over. It is free to start with no credit card, and it works on any screen, phone included.
What does Hakkuu cost?
Hakkuu has four plans, billed in Canadian dollars with tax extra. Free costs $0 forever: 3 customers, 1 seat, and 5 invoices and 5 quotes a month, with inventory, expenses and the dashboard included. Conto is $19 a month for 10 customers and 2 seats, with unlimited invoices and quotes, automatic expense categorisation and daily backups. Libro is $39 a month for 100 customers and 5 seats, and adds receipt scanning, the AI assistant and weekly digests. Mastro is $79 a month for unlimited customers and 10 seats, with everything in Libro plus vendor research and automatic transaction classification, and backups kept a full year. Yearly billing gives two months free.
Does Hakkuu handle Canadian sales tax?
Yes. Hakkuu applies the right Canadian sales tax to invoices and quotes, whether that is GST alone, HST in the Atlantic provinces and Ontario, or GST plus PST or QST elsewhere. Tax is shown as its own line so you and your customer can see the subtotal and the tax separately. On the expense side, the tax on a scanned receipt is recorded separately from the total so it is ready to claim at filing time. Hakkuu was built for Canadian businesses from the start rather than adapted from a US product.
How does receipt scanning work?
Photograph a paper receipt and Hakkuu reads the vendor, date, tax and total off the image, then files it as an expense with a suggested category you can accept or change. Nothing has to be typed. The tax portion is kept separate from the subtotal, and the expense is ready for your bookkeeper or for tax season without the paper ever going into a folder. It works from a phone browser today, and from the camera roll once the iOS and Android apps ship.
Who is Hakkuu for?
Hakkuu is for Canadian shops, studios and service businesses run by one owner or a small team: tradespeople, makers, repair shops, small agencies and anyone still running the books in a spreadsheet. A typical customer sends quotes and invoices directly to clients, keeps a physical inventory that should count itself down as items sell, scans receipts instead of storing them, and wants one live number for what they are owed and what cash they actually have. It is not built for large finance departments.
